This paper demonstrated an asymmetric plasmonic structure (APS) formed by selfassembly of close packed silver nanoparticles in to porous templates with dual function: Solar water purification and Pollution detection. The dark side of the APS with the broadband and efficient light absorption (solar absorptivity > 90%) and energy transfer efficiency ~80% can enable efficient solar steam generation. The shiny metallic side is enables a minimal detection concentration down to ~pM and maximal enhancement factor ~109. This dual functional APS also enable on- site pollution detection and water purification: contaminated water with various kind of common pollutants have been examined and purified. Purification and detection function show strong durability performance up to ~45 days, with < 20% decay in SERS intensity and < 10% decay in solar energy transfer efficiency. This APS is a promising structure for simultaneous water purification and on- site quality examination
